Synthos S.A. won the "Polish Company - International Champion 2016" competition, category: "Polish Private Companies - Investor". The prize was awarded for the transaction of purchase of the Ineos Styrenics business unit, which made the Synthos S.A. Group a leader on the market of EPS, the main ingredient of foamed polystyrene.

On behalf of the company, the prize was collected by Michał Sołowow, its major shareholder who transformed the collapsing chemical company, Dwory, into a dynamic Polish business which nowadays is a success both in Europe and worldwide.

"Those who try out their business skills outside of Poland know how difficult a challenge it is and that in order to mark your presence on foreign markets, it is not enough to simply be better than your local competition. You need to be better, cheaper, more persistent, better organized and more flexible. Synthos shows that it is possible and worth the effort, as satisfaction derived from the success is great.", said Michał Sołowow when collecting the award from Jacek Socha, deputy president of PwC Polska.

As a result of the transaction, effected on August 31st 2016, the following three EPS plants were incorporated into the Synthos S.A. capital group: an EPS plant in Wingles (FR), in Ribécourt (FR) and in Breda (NL). Moreover, in Breda there is a modern technology centre consisting of specialized research laboratory and pilot plants, where innovative products implemented by the company are tested.

The "Polish Company - International Champion" competition is organised by PwC and "Puls Biznesu" under the patronage of the Polish Champion programme and in cooperation with PKO Bank Polski. The honorary patronage over the contest was taken by the Ministries of Development and Foreign Affairs. The results of this year's edition were announced on December 1st in Warsaw.

The "Polish Company - International Champion" competition promotes active participation of Polish companies in global markets. The chapter rewards Polish companies which, through their foreign investments and export activity, transform into global entities that effectively compete on foreign markets and develop the brand value of Poland in the international arena.
